Yellow Post Shortlisted for 2025 Brick Bay Folly!

Congratulations to our very own Henry Mabin, along with Oliver Prisk and André Vachias from Jasmax, and George Culling from Savory Construction , for being shortlisted for the 2025 Brick Bay Folly!
Their project, Yellow Post, is an 8.5m tall folly marking the entrance to Brick Bay. Inspired by the historic hākari structures of Kororāreka in Aotearoa - grand scaffold stages that symbolized manaakitanga, celebration, and community gathering - it stands as a distinct point of congregation.
Using scale, structure, and vibrant colours like Resene Broom Yellow, Resene Mariner Blue, and Resene Havoc Red, the folly creates a bold visual presence. Positioned on higher ground beside the gravel driveway, Yellow Post overlooks the Sculpture Park, with reused scrim cladding delicately wrapping the structure, accentuating its lightness and transparency.
The Brick Bay Folly competition, hosted by the Brick Bay Sculpture Trust, invites emerging architects to explore the intersection of sculpture and architecture. It offers a unique opportunity to test design ideas, manage construction, navigate real-world challenges, and actively participate in the building process. The winning project will be announced in May 2025, with the successful team receiving a grant, technical support, and significant exposure.
